Dr Gilles Salvat holds a DVM (Doctor in Veterinary Medicine) and PhD in food microbiology. He is the head of the AFSSA (French Food Safety Agency - http://www.afssa.fr) Research Laboratory on Poultry and Fish. His laboratory is a national reference laboratory for most of the poultry and fish diseases. His research work mainly concerns the field of food safety and especially ecology, epidemiology and prevention of Salmonella, Campylobacter and Listeria monocytogenes in poultry production, and the implementation of HACCP in the poultry industry. He is particularly involved in eradication programs against Salmonella enteritidis and Typhimurium in poultry production. He is author or co-author of more than 200 scientific and technical publications (63 peer-reviewed) in the field of food safety. He is regularly invited to participate in expert working groups for the AFSSA, EFSA (European Food Safety Authority), FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), WHO (World health organization) and FSA (Food Standard Agency). He is a member of the coordinating forum of Med-Vet-Net (http://www.medvetnet.org) the European Network of Excellence for Zoonosis research. Since 1992, he has been the co-organizer of the International Symposium on Salmonella and Salmonellosis (http://www.zoopole.com/ispaia/i3s2010) which will be held this year from the 28th to the 30th of June in St Malo (France).
