David Tharp serves as the Executive Director for the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) with offices located in Des Moines, Iowa. David’s employment with IAFP began in 1993, when he began his association career as the Director of Finance and Administration. A promotion to Executive Director took place in 1997. Prior to employment with IAFP, David was employed in Public Accounting. David earned his B.S. in Business Administration from Drake University in Des Moines with a major in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). In addition,
David earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives. IAFP provides food safety professionals worldwide with a forum to exchange information on protecting the food supply. This is achieved through a monthly, electronic newsletter, two monthly journals; the Journal of Food Protection and Food Protection Trends and through an Annual Meeting where research topics on food safety issues are presented. In addition, each year, IAFP conducts a European Symposium on Food Safety and an International Symposium on Food Safety for members outside of North America.
