Dr. Ryan Newkirk is the Senior Advisor for Intentional Adulteration at the U.S. FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition. Dr. Newkirk’s efforts focus on food defense and economically motivated adulteration/food fraud. Dr. Newkirk is the lead for the Food Safety Modernization Act Intentional Adulteration rule writing workgroup. He has worked in public health and terrorism preparedness since 2000, and has focused on intentional adulteration of food since 2007. Prior to joining FDA, Dr. Newkirk held a post-doctorate position with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service. He completed his doctorate in epidemiology and food defense research at the Food Protection and Defense Institute at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, and completed a master’s degree in infectious disease epidemiology at Saint Louis University School of Public Health.
